Consultant – Data Management

Builds Comoros’ capacity to produce and use reliable fisheries statistics by mapping national data sources, assessing collection methods and recommending sustainable systems. The consultancy develops a validated fisheries catalogue and practical methods for SDG 14.4.1 and fishing-effort indicators with national and UN partners.

Department: United Nations Statistics Division

• Design the methodology and schedule for mapping fisheries data sources
• Assess data-collection tools against SDG and FAO methodologies
• Identify fisheries-data stakeholders, sources, gaps and reporting challenges
• Profile source formats, coverage, disaggregation, frequency and quality
• Recommend improvements to data collection, estimation and national platforms
• Draft and validate the fisheries data catalogue with national and UN partners
• Build capacity to calculate fisheries indicators including SDG 14.4.1
• Recommend secure and sustainable data-sharing arrangements

• Advanced university degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, environmental sciences, social sciences or a related field with five years of data analysis or management experience, or bachelor’s degree with seven years
• Experience working with a national statistical system focused on environmental data
• Experience using data disaggregated by geography, sex and population groups
• Full command of spoken and written French and English

• Home-based consultancy from 1 September to 30 December 2026
• May require project-authorised travel with airfare and daily subsistence allowance covered separately
