IT Architecture Modernisation Consultant

Modernises national statistical offices’ IT architecture through modular open-source data-lake platforms for official statistics. The consultant assesses systems, configures infrastructure, advises country teams, builds engineering skills and creates case studies and guidance for sustainable adoption.

Department: United Nations Statistics Division

• Assess national statistical offices' hardware, software, skills and architecture needs
• Draft technical requirements for data ingestion, storage, analytics, dissemination and access control
• Design and configure modular open-source data-lake technology stacks
• Advise at least two countries on modernising statistical IT architecture
• Provide remote and mission-based technical assistance for deployment
• Train stakeholders to deploy and use data-lake platforms
• Develop country case studies and general infrastructure guidance
• Apply UN data-governance policies where relevant

• Advanced university degree in computer science, data science, data engineering or a related field with five years of experience, or bachelor degree with seven years
• At least five years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise data systems, data warehousing, big data, GIS analytics or cloud storage and access
• Hands-on experience with open-source data ingestion, object storage, collaborative analytics and container orchestration technologies
• Experience planning and implementing IT architecture for complex statistical production or data-science systems
• Full command of spoken and written English

• Remote consultancy from 15 August to 31 December 2026
• May include one or two technical-assistance missions, subject to need, feasibility and funding
