Co-leads urban and climate resilience work in two municipalities in Rio de Janeiro State, coordinating plans, partners, training, monitoring and knowledge products while translating global sustainable development and disaster-risk frameworks into practical local implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate urban and climate-resilience awareness activities in the Mountain Region
  • Prepare deliverables, work plans, progress reports and expenditure updates against agreed results
  • Establish planning, implementation and monitoring systems with programme partners
  • Identify programme risks and implement mitigation measures
  • Translate the 2030 Agenda, New Urban Agenda and Sendai Framework into territorial action
  • Maintain relationships with government, civil society, universities, communities and private-sector partners
  • Assess capacity needs and deliver technical assistance, mentoring, training and workshops
  • Monitor activities and expenditure and produce documentation and knowledge products

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism, Environmental Engineering, Geography or a related field, or three additional years of relevant experience beyond the minimum
  • Minimum three years of experience in project coordination, team leadership, technical advisory or community mobilisation related to urban development or disaster-risk management in Brazil
  • Professional experience in public policy, public administration, sustainability, social or urban development and stakeholder coordination
  • Computer proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Microsoft Teams and web search engines
  • Fluency in Portuguese
  • Brazilian nationality or permanent residence rights in Brazil

Additional info

  • Six-month consultancy paid monthly against approved activity reports
  • Assignment covers equivalent official vacancies in Nova Friburgo and Teresópolis
  • Travel within Brazil may be required and authorised missions are financed by UN-Habitat
  • Contract extension depends on funding and performance and is not automatic
  • BSAFE accreditation is required during the first month
