Job Description
The Political Affairs Officer supports BINUH's political and good-governance mandate in Haiti by shaping strategy, analysing political, economic, electoral and security developments, advising senior leaders, building stakeholder partnerships, directing research and staff, and managing the team's work programme and budget.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Help formulate political strategies and action plans for BINUH's political and good-governance mandate
- Analyse economic development, elections, security and links among Haiti's political, economic and business sectors
- Build relationships with political and civil-society stakeholders and develop multi-stakeholder partnerships
- Integrate human-rights, conflict-prevention and gender perspectives into policy, planning and operations
- Prepare briefing notes, talking points, speeches and advice for senior mission leadership
- Coordinate and supervise political research and edit high-quality analytical products
- Lead staff, allocate work, coach and evaluate team members and support recruitment and training
- Formulate the Political Team's work programme, budget and medium-term plan
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Economics, Law, Public Administration or a related field, or a first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
- At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, economics, development management, conflict resolution, public affairs or a related area
- Experience in a field operation or comparable international organisation in a conflict or post-conflict setting
- Fluency in English and French at UN Level II
- Placement on a pre-approved UN roster for similar functions at the same level
- Nationality other than Haitian nationality
Desired Criteria
- Experience supporting political processes in a transition setting, including direct facilitation with conflict parties
- Experience providing political analysis on economic and governance issues
