National Technical Consultant – Data and Statistics

Provides embedded technical support to India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on gender statistics and publications. The consultant manages datasets, produces gender-responsive analysis and visualisations, coordinates reviews and strengthens knowledge products and capacity for evidence-based policy.

Department: India Country Office

• Compile, organise, verify and document national and international statistical datasets
• Prepare data briefs, analytical notes and policy-relevant gender-statistics products
• Clean and validate data for gender bulletins and official publications
• Develop statistical tables, charts, graphs and visualisations
• Strengthen gender-responsive indicators and analysis in Women and Men in India 2026
• Analyse ageing indicators and support the Elderly in India 2026 publication
• Coordinate technical reviews, approvals, workshops and follow-up with ministry and UN Women teams
• Maintain repositories and document methods, decisions, lessons and progress

• Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Economics, Demography, Public Policy, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Data Science or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
• At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in gender statistics, socioeconomic analysis, public-policy research, official statistics or development research
• Experience using large national datasets or comparable statistical systems
• Experience preparing analytical reports, policy briefs, statistical publications or knowledge products
• Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research and translating findings into policy recommendations
• Strong written English and good command of Hindi

• Consultant must use their own computer equipment
• Consultants aged 65 or older must provide medical fitness certification when travel is required
• Selection includes an interview and assessment of writing samples
