Irrigation and Natural Resource Specialist

Provide FAO Syria with technical and policy support on irrigation, water management and natural resources by assessing systems, developing climate-resilient strategies and guidance, shaping policy and investment priorities, preparing agriculture-recovery projects and coordinating institutions, consultations and training.

Department: FAO Syria Country Office, Agriculture Policy Team

• Assess irrigation systems, water resources and natural-resource conditions
• Develop water and irrigation policy recommendations and technical guidance
• Formulate sustainable irrigation and watershed-management strategies
• Integrate climate resilience into agriculture-sector planning
• Identify investment priorities and prepare irrigation project concepts
• Support programme planning for FAO Syria's irrigation portfolio
• Coordinate institutions and stakeholders around technical priorities
• Organize workshops, training sessions and policy consultations

• University degree in irrigation engineering, water-resources management, natural-resources management, agricultural engineering or a related field
• At least seven years of relevant experience in irrigation systems and water management
• Familiarity with Syria's water and agriculture-sector challenges
• Working knowledge of English and Arabic at C1 level
• Syrian nationality
