Investigator

Leads investigations into genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan, planning missions, interviewing survivors and witnesses, collecting and preserving evidence, supervising investigative teams and coordinating with prosecutors, police and protection partners.

Department: Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section

• Plan and conduct investigations into serious international crimes and human-rights violations
• Interview survivors, witnesses and suspects and review documentary evidence
• Identify, collect, record and preserve evidence while maintaining chain of custody
• Supervise investigators and prepare mission plans and investigative reports
• Coordinate with prosecutors, police, governments, civil society and United Nations partners
• Apply security-risk and witness-protection protocols during evidence gathering
• Support forensic projects and survivor participation in judicial processes

• Advanced university degree in law, international law, criminal investigation, police studies or a related field, or the stated first-degree alternative with qualifying experience
• At least seven years of progressively responsible law-enforcement or criminal-investigation experience involving serious international crimes or humanitarian-law breaches
• Experience gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses
• English at UN Level III
