Intern, Disease Surveillance and Outbreak Analytics

Supports WHO’s work on epidemic-prone bacterial diseases through surveillance-data management and outbreak analytics. The intern validates multi-country data, develops reproducible workflows, performs epidemiological analyses and contributes evidence reviews, technical guidance, publications and outbreak operations.

Department: Epidemic and Pandemic Management

• Compile and validate epidemiological and laboratory surveillance data
• Document and automate recurring analytical workflows
• Develop multi-country surveillance databases and quality controls
• Analyse epidemic curves, attack rates, fatality rates and demographic trends
• Prepare tables, figures, maps and epidemiological information products
• Review and synthesise evidence for disease-control guidance
• Draft technical reports, procedures, practical guides and training materials
• Support outbreak-response data management and vaccine-provision work

• Completion of at least three years of university study in public health, medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science or a related field
• Current enrolment in a formal university qualification, or application within eighteen months after graduation
• Academic or research experience in infectious-disease epidemiology, outbreak analytics or disease control
• Experience managing and analysing surveillance or other health data
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Expert knowledge of English

• Twenty-four-week internship from 16 November 2026 to 30 April 2027
