Information Systems Officer

Develops and supports ASYCUDA customs information systems for national customs services, translating user needs into secure applications, maintaining and testing integrated platforms, training users and strengthening digital trade operations across East and Southern Africa.

Department: ASYCUDA Programme, Division on Technology and Logistics

• Manage feasibility, analysis, design, development and implementation projects for moderately complex ASYCUDA systems
• Translate national customs service requirements into technical specifications, applications and integration designs
• Maintain and enhance ASYCUDA systems and resolve complex user and performance issues
• Develop integrated customs programmes such as Single Windows with suitable data security and access controls
• Design and execute unit, integration and user-acceptance testing
• Prepare training materials, operating manuals and user documentation and train customs staff
• Develop disaster recovery plans and train responsible personnel
• Guide junior staff and consultants and prepare systems reports and information strategy papers

• Advanced university degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or a related field, or a first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
• At least five years of progressively responsible experience planning, designing, developing, implementing and maintaining information systems, including customs and international trade digitalisation
• Experience in system deployment, development and support
• UN Level II English across reading, writing, listening and speaking

• Temporary appointment for six months
