Geospatial Applications Specialist

Develops scalable Earth-observation systems for agricultural monitoring, crop mapping, yield forecasting and climate early warning. The specialist integrates GeoAI outputs with farmer registries, validates products with field data and helps national institutions use geospatial evidence operationally.

Department: Agrifood Economics and Policy Division

• Process satellite time series for crop monitoring, land-cover mapping and phenology analysis
• Operate and adapt Sen4Stat and Sen4CAP agricultural monitoring workflows
• Develop and validate biomass and crop-yield forecasting models
• Apply geospatial foundation models and embeddings to classification and change detection
• Build drought and flood indicators for national early-warning systems
• Link Earth-observation products with farmer registries for policy and financial services
• Design field-data protocols and quality-assurance workflows for ground-truth validation
• Train national counterparts and integrate geospatial products into official statistical systems

• Advanced degree in environmental science, data science, geography, agronomy, statistics or a related field for consultants, or a university degree or technical specialisation for PSA appointments
• At least one year of relevant experience applying Earth-observation data to agricultural monitoring, food security or policy analysis
• Working knowledge of English
