The Deputy Chief of Mission supports IOM Sudan's Chief of Mission in aligning programmes and support services, strengthening strategy, risk management, donor engagement, inter-agency coordination and operational delivery across the country office.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the country office with authorities, donors, NGOs and other partners
  • Oversee country strategies, policies and programme development across the operational portfolio
  • Strengthen risk management, compliance, internal controls and transparent programme-resource management
  • Coordinate mission offices, sub-offices and unit heads to ensure coherent country office programming
  • Advise senior management on strategy, policy, guidance notes and external consultation processes
  • Ensure projects comply with IOM and donor regulations, policies, work plans and budgets
  • Oversee field operations across the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding nexus
  • Deputise for the Chief of Mission with mission, staff and financial management responsibility

Requirements

  • Master's degree in political or social sciences, law, international relations, business administration or a related field with ten years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree with twelve years of relevant professional experience
  • Excellent understanding of and proven experience in inter-agency coordination, strategic engagement, UN structures and systems, and both crisis and development settings
  • Extensive experience formulating and delivering internal displacement and solutions policy, strategy and programming
  • International experience managing programmes covering emergency, stabilization and development areas
  • Previous experience as a Head of Office, Chief of Mission or Senior Programme Manager with a government, UN agency, regional or international organisation
  • Fluency in oral and written English
