Assistant Field Translator

Supports communication across languages for UNAMA by translating and interpreting meetings, documents and visitor exchanges. The role assists senior translators, preserves meaning and style, edits target-language text and helps analyse operational data for planning and reporting.

Department: Language Unit

• Translate spoken and written material between source and target languages
• Assist translators during meetings, conferences and mediated discussions
• Create target-language text that preserves the content and style of the original
• Edit and proofread translated text for accuracy
• Interpret legal terminology, colloquial language and spoken communication
• Support senior officials with publications, web pages and other written material
• Facilitate communication for visitors and people with limited English proficiency
• Analyse operational data and draft visual insights for planning and reporting

• Advanced or first-level university degree in English language literature, journalism or a related field
• At least two years of relevant experience in translation or language activities with a government, non-governmental or international organisation
• English at UN Level II and Dari at UN Level I across reading, writing, listening and speaking
