Job Description

Provides a supervised learning placement supporting responsible AI and digital innovation at UNICEF Gambia. The intern assists with practical AI use-case mapping, testing approved tools and workflows, research, draft knowledge products, basic data tasks, and awareness of responsible AI safeguards.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Identify and document practical AI use cases for programme delivery, operations, communication, reporting and knowledge management
  • Test approved AI-enabled tools, workflows and simple automation approaches under supervision
  • Prepare draft research notes, learning materials, briefs, presentations and guidance on responsible AI
  • Support basic data organization, analysis, visualization and reporting using approved authorized data
  • Prepare draft templates, prompts, guides and workflow notes for supervisor review
  • Document lessons learned, challenges and possible recommendations for validation
  • Provide regular progress updates and reflections on learning needs to the supervisor

Role Requirements

  • Be enrolled in or have recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, information technology, data science, artificial intelligence, information systems, statistics, engineering, digital transformation, development studies or a related field
  • Demonstrate interest in artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, digital innovation, data analysis, automation, knowledge management or technology for development
  • Have basic familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications, online collaboration platforms, data management tools or AI-enabled productivity tools
  • Demonstrate willingness to develop research, analytical, writing, documentation and presentation skills with attention to detail and openness to feedback
  • Show interest in responsible AI principles including privacy, data protection, transparency, inclusion, fairness and ethical use of technology
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Country-level experience in development, fragile or humanitarian contexts
  • Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language
  • Prior exposure to data analysis, dashboards, coding, automation, prompt development, research, digital learning or innovation projects
