Adequate Housing Specialist

Produces applied research and data products on adequate, accessible and climate-smart housing, supporting UN-Habitat’s Canada programme with inclusive policy evidence, knowledge tools and partnerships that connect Canadian expertise to global housing dialogue.

Department: UN-Habitat Canada Office

• Conduct applied research on housing adequacy, accessibility, cultural relevance and sustainable urban development
• Design quantitative and qualitative methods for housing data collection, analysis and visualisation
• Map and manage Canadian and international housing data sources
• Develop knowledge tools, policy briefs, webinar content and capacity-building materials
• Create accessible graphical, interactive and video formats for research findings
• Facilitate meetings, workshops and consultations on inclusive housing frameworks
• Build partnerships with academic, Indigenous, community and housing-data organisations
• Monitor research outputs and prepare reports, recommendations and proposals

• Master's degree in urban studies, housing policy, urban planning, geography, economics, international development, social policy or a related field, or a first-level degree with two additional years of experience
• Minimum two years of experience in research methods, quantitative and qualitative analysis, survey design and communication of findings
• Ability to conduct applied research on housing adequacy, accessibility and climate-smart housing
• Ability to synthesise complex evidence for policymakers, practitioners and diverse audiences
• Canadian citizenship, residence or permission to work in Canada
• Fluency in spoken and written English

• On-site full-time consultancy based in Montreal
• Six-month contract with possible extension following positive performance
• Reports to the Head of the UN-Habitat Canada Office or designated supervisor
