Wastewater and Water Quality Data Technical Specialist

The consultant will strengthen SDG 6.3.1 wastewater monitoring by improving data collection, quality checks, country reporting and partner coordination, while developing analysis, outreach materials and project proposals for UN-Habitat and UN-Water.

Department: Urban Basic Services Section

• Support methodology work for monitoring total and industrial wastewater generated and safely treated
• Coordinate with WHO, UNSD, OECD, Eurostat and other partners on wastewater data collection and terminology
• Review wastewater databases for accuracy, consistency, aggregation and SDG 6.3.1 reporting
• Collect disaggregated wastewater data from countries not reporting to international databases
• Contribute technical inputs and statistical information to the SDG 6.3.1 indicator report
• Prepare outreach materials, project proposals, publications and communication products
• Develop concept notes and proposals with partners and donors to mobilise resources

• Advanced university degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Public Health or a closely related field, or a first degree with seven years of qualifying experience
• Minimum of seven years of experience in environmental sciences, water resources management, or water and development, including at least five years in monitoring basic services such as water, sanitation and hygiene
• Experience preparing scientific analysis on wastewater and water quality issues
• Fluency in written and oral English
