Overview

Provides surge infrastructure project management support to UNOPS country offices worldwide, delivering rapid remote or in-person technical leadership for infrastructure projects, operational recovery and short-term capacity gaps.

Responsibilities

  • Manage infrastructure project implementation plans, milestones, design reviews and delivery tolerances
  • Embed sustainability, social, gender, environmental and economic considerations across project lifecycles
  • Monitor project progress, manage changes and advise on risk mitigation
  • Maintain project systems, reporting obligations, documentation and audit support
  • Prepare project and financial reports in line with partner and UNOPS requirements
  • Develop stakeholder engagement strategies and coordinate project communications
  • Coordinate quality reviews and supplier quality interfaces
  • Lead project teams, performance management, recruitment and security compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, water, electrical, mechanical, structural or another applicable engineering discipline with seven years of relevant experience, or master's degree in one of those disciplines with five years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience implementing and managing infrastructure projects such as roads, dams, bridges, irrigation, health, windmills, solar power or ports, including in developing countries, post-conflict environments or emergency contexts
  • Experience defining technical and design requirements
  • Knowledge of infrastructure quality assurance methodologies and tools
  • Experience managing infrastructure project risks in a multi-stakeholder context
  • Fluency in English
  • Availability for international travel, including hardship locations

Additional info

  • Home-based retainer contract for one year, up to 220 working days
  • Successful candidates may join a pool for short-term assignments and may also be considered for future full-time open-ended needs
  • International travel is required, including possible hardship locations and missions lasting several weeks to four months
  • Retainer personnel must complete mandatory courses in their own time before providing services
