Mechanical Engineer

Provides retainer mechanical-engineering design, review, assessment and procurement support for UNOPS infrastructure projects, including site assessments, technical documentation, cost estimates and commissioning support.

Department: Technical Services Unit

• Conduct site assessments and desk reviews of mechanical works
• Prepare mechanical systems analysis, designs, drawings, specifications and bills of quantity
• Recommend sustainable and cost-effective technical solutions for infrastructure projects
• Provide technical input to procurement specifications and tender evaluations
• Monitor installation of mechanical services through site visits when required
• Review mechanical products, materials, testing and contractor documentation
• Prepare estimates, snag lists, commissioning records and handover documentation
• Maintain design records and share lessons learned through UNOPS knowledge systems

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with four years of relevant experience, or master's degree in a related field with two years of relevant experience
• Full member status registration with a recognised professional engineering body
• At least four years of experience in analysis, design, specifications, bills of quantity, site monitoring and coordination of mechanical engineering installation works
• Experience with air conditioning and ventilation systems, water supply and drainage systems, firefighting systems, lift installations or gas distribution systems
• Fluency in English and French

• One-year retainer contract with possible extension subject to performance and funding
• Home-based retainer personnel provide their own engineering software and hardware
• Travel to project sites may be required when UNDSS permits
• Task orders define the scope, deliverables and maximum duration for each assignment
• Retainer personnel must complete mandatory courses in their own time before providing services
