The expert supports the Security Council Panel of Experts concerning the Sudan by monitoring sanctions implementation, investigating alleged violations and contributing legal analysis for reports, briefings and recommendations to the Committee and Security Council.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor sanctions measures and investigate alleged violations related to the Sudan
  • Contribute findings, analysis and recommendations to Panel reports and briefings
  • Compile information on individuals and entities that may engage in sanctions violations
  • Analyse political developments and dynamics relevant to the Panel mandate
  • Participate in fact-finding missions and gather information from authorities, civil society and UN field presences
  • Draft correspondence, notes and briefs in the area of responsibility
  • Support high-evidentiary-standard reporting and due process for investigation subjects

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in international law, political science, international relations, a relevant technical field or another relevant area OR first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
  • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible relevant experience, including at least three years of field experience
  • Significant field experience in post-conflict or other transitional situations
  • Strong field research or investigative experience in the area of expertise
  • Experience writing high-quality reports
  • Proven interpersonal skills in complex, political and structured working environments
  • Fluency in English

  • Expected initial period of 12 months from August 2026, subject to mandate renewal and budgetary approval
  • Home-based assignment with frequent regional and international travel
  • Travel is required to engage with petitioners, government officials and other interlocutors
  • Travel will be in Economy Class
  • Level C consultancy position
