Geotechnical Engineer

The retainer consultant will provide structural, geotechnical and foundations engineering support for UNOPS work to diagnose and complete school infrastructure for Indigenous and Quilombola communities in Brazil.

Department: Southern Cone Multi-Country Office

• Support terms of reference for school infrastructure diagnosis and project updates
• Review geotechnical engineering designs, soil investigations, foundation systems and containment structures
• Prepare technical reports and opinions on foundations, geotechnics and technological controls
• Analyse budget spreadsheets, schedules and physical-financial charts
• Develop guidelines for soil investigation and geotechnical project planning
• Prepare quality-control guidance for works execution and inspection
• Provide technical guidance to designers, drafters and engineers
• Participate in technical meetings, site visits and project reporting

• Bachelor degree in civil engineering with registration in the relevant professional council
• Two years of progressively responsible experience in infrastructure and geotechnical engineering projects
• Experience with earthworks, geotechnical characterisation, shallow and deep foundations, slope containment or geotechnical design
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, TQS, FEM, Settle3D, Slide, APile, MathCAD or similar software
• Native Portuguese and basic Spanish

• Retainer contract for 12 months
• Own laptop, software and internet connection are required for home-based work
• Availability for business-hours meetings and travel is required
• UNOPS covers required travel costs under applicable rules
