General Counsel

The General Counsel serves as the principal legal adviser to the NATO BICES Group Executive, guiding leadership on international, personnel, governance, procurement and litigation matters, negotiating legal instruments, shaping policy, representing the body and establishing the new counsel function.

Department: BICES Group Executive

• Advise leadership and governance bodies on legal matters
• Establish the inaugural General Counsel function
• Interpret international, personnel and commercial law
• Negotiate agreements and legal instruments
• Develop policy and assess legal implications
• Represent the organization in litigation and external forums
• Coordinate with NATO legal offices and member nations

• University law degree with professional qualifications and licences
• At least eight years of legal experience
• At least five years in an international multidisciplinary environment
• International law and personnel-law expertise
• Advanced English and beginner French
• Nationality of a NATO member country

• Appointment is subject to national security clearance
