Economic Affairs Officer

Analyses how economic shocks affect trade, investment, finance and sustainable development by building datasets, applying econometric models and producing policy research. The officer supports UNCTAD’s technical publications, senior briefings and intergovernmental reporting on global and regional trends.

Department: Innovation and Research Coordination Unit

• Develop socioeconomic databases and qualitative evidence on economic shocks and development
• Apply and adapt econometric models to identify trends, relationships and policy effects
• Draft analytical inputs for technical papers and studies on economic development
• Analyse policy proposals relating to assigned economic topics
• Gather evidence through international, regional and national meetings
• Prepare speeches, presentation inputs and briefings for senior staff
• Draft inputs for reports and statements to intergovernmental bodies
• Track interagency and intergovernmental meetings and prepare summary reports

• Master’s degree or equivalent in economics or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with two additional years of qualifying experience
• At least five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, applying economic principles in development programmes or a related area
• Fluency in English

• Temporary project-funded appointment is available until 31 December 2026 and extension depends on performance, project continuation and funding
