Counsel

Provides legal support for MIGA and World Bank Group guarantee operations from Washington, D.C. The counsel advises on transaction eligibility and risk, performs legal due diligence, drafts and negotiates guarantee documentation, manages outside counsel and supports amendments, disputes, claims and host-country approvals.

Department: MIGA Legal Affairs and Claims Group

• Advise on guarantee structures, eligibility, policies and procedures
• Assess legal risks affecting the guarantor’s rights and remedies
• Conduct legal due diligence and contribute to approval documents
• Draft and negotiate guarantee contracts and related legal instruments
• Manage outside counsel assignments and costs
• Prepare waivers, consents, amendments and confidentiality agreements
• Research national and public international law issues
• Support host-country approvals and investor-state dispute management
