Chemical Safety Engineer

The engineer serves as a CERN chemical-safety specialist, advising projects and facilities on hazardous substances, risk assessments and dangerous-goods transport while verifying installations, reviewing specifications and developing rules and training.

Department: Health, Safety and Environment — General Safety and Equipment Integrity

• Advise teams on chemical-safety risk assessments
• Verify safety of installations and activities
• Define compliant dangerous-goods transport requirements
• Support safety audits, technical reviews and projects
• Review engineering and tender specifications for conformity
• Draft safety rules, instructions and training

• Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in chemical engineering, chemistry or a related field
• Experience managing chemical safety for large industrial facilities or projects
• Experience advising on chemical and biological hazards and dangerous-goods transport
• Knowledge of relevant European regulations or equivalent national standards
• English or French proficiency with commitment to learn the other language
• Valid driving licence
• Nationality of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State

• Hybrid role requiring a valid driving licence and possible underground, radiation-area, night, Sunday and holiday work
