Responsibilities

  • Monitor political developments, trends and emerging issues affecting UNSOH mandate implementation
  • Keep the Assistant Secretary-General informed on matters requiring personal attention and recommend handling options
  • Organise meetings, mission events, high-level visits and field visits with briefing and follow-up support
  • Draft correspondence, code cables, speeches, briefing notes and analytical reports
  • Maintain working relationships with state institutions, civil society, religious actors, donors and international partners
  • Support media liaison and manage interview requests in coordination with communications teams
  • Assess political implications and recommend actions to advance mandated objectives
  • Support planning, budgeting and annual workplan implementation for the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in political science, international relations, social science, communications, economics, law, public administration or a related field, or first-level university degree with two additional years of experience
  • Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, development, humanitarian, diplomacy or related field
  • Experience working in a United Nations peace operation, special political mission or other United Nations related field operation
  • At least one year of previous front-office experience as a Special Assistant or similar role to a senior public official
  • English and French are required
