UNFPA seeks a UN Volunteer to support the midwifery component of the Sexual and Reproductive Health programme in Lao PDR. The role supports the Midwifery Action Plan, professional association strengthening, programme management, monitoring, advocacy and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of the Midwifery Action Plan 2025-2035 across education, enabling environment, community engagement, workforce development and regulation
  • Monitor the MSc Midwifery course with UHS and support ICM-accredited colleges to maintain accreditation
  • Support remaining colleges to strive for accreditation
  • Develop job descriptions for clinical mentors and implement the mentorship programme across the country
  • Strengthen the Lao Association of Midwife structure through governance, leadership, technology, member life cycle management and strategic planning
  • Support development of the Lao Association of Midwife strategic plan for the next five years
  • Build the capacity of qualified and trained midwife members to maintain continued professional development
  • Support the annual celebration of the International Day of the Midwife
  • Provide programme management, planning, implementation, reporting and financial management support for the midwifery component
  • Coordinate with partners to collect training data and healthcare service access records
  • Provide technical support on SRH programme monitoring and documentation
  • Support advocacy events and communication initiatives linked to UNFPA Lao PDR programmes, including media engagement
  • Support content development, including press releases and social media messages for the SRH unit

Requirements

  • Midwifery, nursing and midwifery, political sciences, economics, demography, social policy, public health, social mobilisation, international relations or other related field
  • Programme experience in development activities, preferably in programme or project management or support
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and managerial skills
  • Self-starter with proactivity and passion for the issues
  • Excellent oral and written skills, including drafting, formulation and reporting
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel
  • Solid computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications, email, internet, database management and office technology
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and tight deadlines
  • Sound security awareness
  • Interest in sexual and reproductive health, volunteerism and the UN system
