Lead Consultant - Formative Research on Migration and Child Marriage

The consultancy leads formative qualitative research on how international migration influences child marriage in Bangladesh. It covers study design, field-team management, ethical data collection, qualitative analysis and reporting for IOM, UNFPA and policy stakeholders.

Department: Migration Data and Research Unit

• Review the existing research outline and conceptual framework
• Prepare an inception report with methodology, tools, work plan and data collection team profile
• Identify research locations with high rates of international migration and child marriage
• Recruit, train and supervise field data collectors
• Lead key informant interviews and focus group discussions with target groups
• Oversee ethical data collection with married adolescents and on sensitive topics
• Lead transcription and qualitative data analysis using thematic, content and narrative techniques
• Prepare draft and final research reports, a presentation and a complete dataset

• Advanced university degree, Master's or PhD, in Social Sciences, Anthropology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Migration Studies or a related field
• At least 10 years of professional experience leading and conducting qualitative social research
• Demonstrable expertise and strong publication record in migration or gender dynamics including child marriage and gender-based violence
• Proven experience managing research teams, including training and supervising data collectors in the field
• Extensive experience with qualitative data analysis techniques and qualitative analysis software
• Strong understanding of and proven commitment to research ethics when working with vulnerable populations and minors
• Fluency in English and Bengali

• Contract duration is up to 11 months
• Consultants must provide proof of medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illness before commencing work
• Deliverables include an inception report, draft report, final report, presentation and complete dataset
