Climate & Environment Associate (Urban Waste Management)

The assignment supports urban waste management and environmental sustainability work within UNDP Bhutan’s climate and environment portfolio. It focuses on implementation support, research, stakeholder coordination, reporting and knowledge products for circular economy and climate-responsive urban initiatives.

Department: Climate and Environment team

• Assist implementation of urban waste management and environmental sustainability activities focused on waste reduction, source segregation and circular economy practices
• Support background research, data collection and basic analysis on urban waste trends, policies and best practices
• Prepare programme documents, concept notes, reports, presentations and briefs on climate, environment and urban waste initiatives
• Coordinate with government counterparts, municipal authorities, development partners, civil society organisations and community groups
• Organise and document workshops, consultations, field visits and stakeholder meetings
• Support monitoring and reporting by tracking outputs, indicators and results
• Draft knowledge management and communications materials such as case stories, lessons learned and internal knowledge-sharing content

• Background in environmental studies, environmental science, climate change, urban planning, development studies, natural resource management, public policy or a related field
• Demonstrated interest or up to three years of experience in environmental studies, environmental science, climate change, urban planning, development studies, natural resource management, public policy or a related field

• Volunteer assignment via UNV
• Assignment duration: 365 days
• UNDP Bhutan will facilitate the visa process with UNV and national authorities after required documents are submitted
