Public Information Assistant

The volunteer delivers public information and community outreach for UNISFA in Abyei, organizing awareness events, monitoring local media, building stakeholder networks and producing reporting, photography, video, web, social and graphic content that explains the mission’s mandate and supports engagement in a volatile setting.

Department: Strategic Communications and Public Information Office

• Plan awareness events using cultural, sports and entertainment formats
• Develop outreach plans and promotional materials
• Organize United Nations international-day events
• Build networks with authorities, community leaders, civil society and media
• Monitor local media and brief mission leadership
• Report from field activities using photography, video and storytelling
• Write web and social-media content and design branded graphics
• Administer section procurement and budgeting tasks

• Professional experience in translation, community outreach, event management, public relations, graphic design and website management
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and office technology
• Strong knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
• Ability to operate digital recording equipment
• Arabic and English proficiency

• National UN Volunteer assignment in a remote, non-family duty station
• Volunteers must arrange their own accommodation
• Seasonal flooding, limited infrastructure and changing security conditions affect the duty station
