Protection Associate

Supports protection delivery in India by monitoring standards, managing individual cases, advising refugees and coordinating rights-based responses with authorities, communities and operational partners.

Department: Protection Unit

• Monitor political, social, economic and cultural developments affecting the protection environment
• Apply relevant international and national law and protection standards to operational work
• Advise persons of concern and liaise with authorities on documentation and protection issues
• Conduct eligibility and status determination support and manage individual protection cases
• Develop protection, child protection and education responses with communities and partners
• Identify durable solutions through repatriation, local integration, resettlement and complementary pathways
• Manage protection information and provide disaggregated data for operational decisions
• Build the capacity of authorities, institutions and NGOs on protection legislation and procedures

• High school diploma with at least three years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree or higher with at least two years of relevant experience
• Indian nationality
• Knowledge of UNHCR protection principles and standards
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Willingness to travel within India

• Temporary appointment from 1 August to 30 November 2026
• Hardship level B
• Work may be performed from the UNHCR office or partner locations in New Delhi
