Responsibilities

  • Provide analysis on climate, peace and security interlinkages for UNAMA and relevant UN offices
  • Promote coherent climate, peace and security objectives and programming across the mission and UN entities
  • Mainstream climate-related peace and security risks into policies, strategies and planning
  • Engage Afghan stakeholders, civil society, regional actors and international partners on confidence-building measures
  • Support aid coordination through the UNCT, Climate, Water and Environment Task Force and Afghanistan Water Platform
  • Identify funding gaps and support programming proposals on climate, environment, peace and security
  • Collaborate on climate finance opportunities for peacemaking and peacebuilding activities
  • Promote regional dialogue, technical cooperation, capacity building and advocacy

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in climate, environment, peace and conflict studies, security, political science, international relations, political economy or a related field, or a bachelor degree with two additional years of relevant experience
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in climate, peace and security, climate change, environmental governance, political affairs, diplomacy, law, conflict prevention, peacebuilding, development or related areas
  • Extensive analytical and reporting experience on political, security, economic and environmental issues
  • Experience working in climate, peace and security
  • At least three years of experience with an international or non-governmental organization on political and climate issues in a conflict or post-conflict setting
  • Experience drafting analytical reports for senior leadership under time constraints and in crisis settings
  • Experience in or on Afghanistan or the region
  • English is required
